Oakwood Photo + Video » Pittsburgh Wedding + Portrait Photography + Videography

Wes & I have so much fun getting to work together at weddings. We feel really fortunate that we get to spend every weekend together doing what we love. Here are a few behind the scenes shots from the past year! {please ignore the fact that both of us wear pretty much wear the same outfits to every wedding. When you find a wedding photographer outfit that’s comfy, you just have to roll with it! 😉 }

Picking a Getting Ready Location…

So…to us, photos & video of everyone getting ready are just as important as the rest of the day! They’re part of the story! The morning of the wedding is full of some great moments & anticipation and we want everything we document to reflect that! Couples are spending a big chunk of change for us to be there, so we want those getting ready photos to be just as beautiful as the rest of the wedding day! We highly recommend considering renting a room at a nearby bed & breakfast, airbnb, or other similar venue OR even plan on getting ready at your house! Having beautiful decor and lots of window light will greatly improve the look of the photos & film!

Here are a few tips to help you make the best of your getting ready + detail photos + film…

– Keep everyones stuff in one part of the room, in a spot far from the windows (we’ll be shooting close to those!) Having everything scattered creates clutter and can interfere with the photos/film.

– Have all of your details gathered up before we get there so we can shoot them quickly and don’t have to bug you for them! (the dress, invitation suite, flowers, rings, jewelry, perfume, shoes, socks, cuff links, letters, or any other unique items you’ve put thought into.) It’s also super nice to have a few loose stems of flowers or greenery so we can use those to style the details!

– If you do have to get ready at a church, think about checking out the entire building to find the perfect place to get ready in. Rooms with neutral walls and windows are a much better option than a dimly lit room in the church basement or a nursery filled with finger paintings hung on the walls.

– Don’t be afraid to ask us for advice and suggestions for your wedding day and where you plan on getting ready! We all are after the same end result- getting you and your other half some awesome photos to remember your day and we LOVE to help when we can!
